Eevee is one of the best Pokémon you can get in Pokémon Go because it has a serious range in addition to being adorable. Before any angry Jigglypuffs get in touch, when we say range, we mean in relation to its evolutions.
Unlike most other Pokémon, Eevee can evolve into eight other Pokémon, each a different type from its Normal-type origins. At the moment, Pokémon Go has seven of the franchise’s eight Eevee evolutions available, with only the Fairy-type Sylveon still to make it into the game.
However, we may see Sylveon come to Pokémon Go soon, as Generation 6 Pokémon are now beginning to roll out. We’ve yet to hear anything specific about this, but it may happen soon.
There are different means of evolving your Eevee, some more complicated than others, so if you’re tired of taking chances with random evolutions and you’re looking specifically for Umbreon, Espeon, Vaporeon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Flareon, or Jolteon to add to your team then you’re in the right place.
But how?Below, we’ll guide you through all the ways it’s possible to evolve Eevee so that you can get the evolutionary form you want.

Evolving Eevee using nicknames

The best means of getting the Eevee evolution you like is to give it a specific nickname before it evolves. So how do you go about that? With this method, all you have to do is rename your Eevee with one of the names below, and then, when you get the requisite 25 candies to evolve it, everything will fall into place.
If you dislike giving your Pokémon nicknames, you can always change it back after your Eevee has evolved.
  • Vaporeon (Water-type): Rainer
  • Flareon (Fire-type): Pyro
  • Jolteon (Electric-type): Sparky
  • Umbreon (Dark-type): Tamao
  • Espeon (Psychic-type): Sakura
  • Glaceon (Ice-type): Rea
  • Leafon (Grass-type): Linnea
Something important to note with this method is that it only works once for each nickname.
If you evolve an Eevee ‘raw’ by spending 25 candy, it’ll just evolve into one of the different available evolutions at random.

However, you can force a specific evolution by renaming your Eevee of choice to a special nickname – and the whole thing began as an easter egg nod to a classic set of Eevee evolutions found in the Pokemon anime TV show.
An important note about this little cheat: it only works once per Eevee Evolution. Once you’ve renamed one Eevee as Tamao to get Umbreon, you’ll only be able to get another Umbreon through ‘natural’ means – with that exact method depending on the eeveelution in question.
You should check your CP and IV values before evolving an Eevee – make sure it’s a good one, as you only get one shot.
So, once you’ve evolved an Eevee into each of the available evolutions using this method, you’ll need to start resorting to other means if you want any more. Keep reading to find out what those are.

Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon

We’ll get the bad newsout of the way first; for these three originals, after you’ve used the nickname trick, we’re afraid there isn’t much more you can do to guarantee them.
To get any more, you’ll have to revert to random evolutions by gathering Eevees and candies and keeping your fingers crossed that you’ll get what you’re looking for when it evolves.

Leafeon and Glaceon

Grass-type Leafeon and Ice-type Glaceon are the latest Eeveelutions to be added to Pokémon Go. However, unlike Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, there is a secondary way of securing their forms.
To evolve Eevee into Leafeon and Glaceon, you’ll have to get specific items: either the Glacial Lure Module for Glaceon or the Mossy Lure Module for Leafeon, which can be purchased in the in-game shop for 200 coins each.
Once you have the correct Lure Module, apply it to a PokéStop. Then, while you’re still close to that PokéStop and the Lure is active, evolve your Eevee using the usual 25 candies, and you should get the form you’re looking for.
If everything is working properly, the evolution button should show the outline of the Eevee evolution you’re going to get before you press it, rather than the usual question mark.

Espeon and Umbreon

Espeon and Umbreon have a secondary means of securing their evolutions, though it takes a little more effort than a simple name change or purchasing a Lure Module.
This method is probably the most involved, but if you like it very much, it’ll be worth it. For these Generation 2 evolutions, you have to set your Eevee as your buddy and have it walk with you for 10km to earn two candies (earning two candies is key).
Once that’s done, you can evolve your Eevee, but the time of day shown in-game will determine which evolutions you get. For example, evolve Eevee during the day, and get the Psychic-type Espeon. On the other hand, you’ll get the Dark-type Umbreon at night.
Though this trick can be somewhat demanding, make sure that Eevee is still your buddy when you evolve it and ensure that you have a GPS signal so that the game has the time of day right where you are. Fortunately, this is unlimited like the nicknames, so you can do it as often as you like.
And that’s how you can get the Eeveelutionof your dreams. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting for Generation 6’s Sylveon to come to Pokémon Go, but we’ll always update this page with the relevant details when it becomes available.

Pokemon Go Eevee evolutions

With so many evolutions to choose from, you want to be sure you got what you want or your favorite – let’s look into how to evolve Eevee in Pokemon Go.
For our money, Eevee is one of the most incredible Pokémon. It’s one of the cutest of the original Red/Blue/Green generation of Pokémon games, and it’s just been promoted to starter status for Pokémon Let’s Go – but the most remarkable thing about Eevee is how it evolves.
Eevee can evolve into more different Pokémon than any other species discovered so far – and of course, that carries over to Pokémon Go.

Eevee Evolution is meant to be a random process in Pokemon Go. Once you press evolve on an Eevee, you have a random chance of getting one of the original three eeveelutions. The others can be obtained through other means, which require a bit of effort. There are also some useful shortcuts and cheats that can be used to get the random factor. We’ll detail all of that below.
There are seven Eevee Evolutions in the game so far. Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon from generation 1 are entirely down to random chance. Umbreon and Espeon from generation 2 and Leafeon and Glaceon from generation 3 are obtained in specific ways. And Sylveon, from generation 6, seems to be coming to the game very soon.
Which do you want? You’ll want to consider this carefully – each evolved form of Eevee is a different type, so you’ll want to evaluate strengths and weaknesses with our Pokemon Go Type Chart. Plus, which you think is the cutest.

How to go about the Glacial Lure & Mossy Lure to get Glaceon and Leafeon

The final current Eeveelutions available in Pokemon Go are Glaceon and Leafeon, and this duo has the most specific evolution method yet. You’ll need some new items to evolve: the Glacial Lure and the Mossy Lure. These two new types of Lure Module are available in the shop and will soon appear as Field Research Rewards.
These lures exist to make you more able to catch different Pokemon – the Glacial lures in Water and Ice-type Pokemon, while the Mossy attracts Bug and Grass types. (As an aside, the Magnetic Lure has no impact on Eevee Evolution but also attracts Electric, Steel, and Rock Pokemon.)
However, there’s an added benefit to these: when they’re placed, they can impact Eevee Evolution. For example, place one of the lures in a Pokestop; if you place the Mossy Lure, you’ll be able to evolve any Eevee you have into Leafeon while standing in that Pokestop’s radius (close enough to spin it).
If you place the Glacial Lure on a Pokestop, that’s when you’ll be able to evolve into Glaceon – just remain within the Pokestop’s radius. But, of course, this works even if you didn’t place the lure, too, so you can share this chance with other players.

Which is the best Eeveelution?

If you’ve made use of only one or two Eevee, you’re thus faced with a difficult choice: which of the five Eevee Evolution forms you can currently get is the best one to have?
Several Eevee Evolutions rank decently in our list of the Best Pokemon for battles in Pokemon Go – in Attack, Espeon is ranked 13th and Flareon 18th, while in Defense, Umbreon clocks in at 16th. Vapoeron ranks a respectable 10th in HP and Stamina, too – but those are just basic stats. What about beyond that?
Pokemon Types are vital in Pokemon Go. An important thing to consider is how each Eevee Evolution ranks compared to other Pokemon of its type – and how easy they are to obtain compared to their powerful peers. So let’s take a look at that:
Flareon isn’t as powerful as Moltres or Entei, but those two are legendary Pokemon that can’t be found, caught, or powered up as easily. It’s still definitely the best non-legendary fire Pokemon option in the game, all things considered.
Both Kyogre and Gyarados beat Vaporeon. Kyogre is another legendary, and Gyarados – which is far more difficult to evolve from the lowly Magikarp – is only a hair more powerful overall. Nevertheless, it’s a great water Pokemon option alongside something like a Blastoise with a good IV.
Jolteon doesn’t rank on the best Pokemon list but finds itself in a similar situation to Flareon – it’s a great, viable electric-type Pokemon that’s only really hand-over-fist beaten by Zapdos and Raikou, legendary beasts.
Espeon has fewer rivals in the Psychic-type category, but it still has two legendary Pokemon to compete with – Mewtwo and Latios. It is predictably worse than this pair but is, on the whole superior to most other Psychic Pokemon in the game.

Pokemon Go Eevee evolutions

Umbereon finds itself as one of the best Dark-type Pokemon in the game. In fact, it’s only really bested in super effective damage output by Tyranitar, a third evolution and one of the best Pokemon in the game in general. Any other Dark-type Pokemon can’t hold a candle to it.
Leafeon is a solid grass-type Pokemon with some decent moves; it’s stronger than the likes of Venusaur, Torterra, and Roserade but is inferior to the likes of Exeggutor (including its Alolan form), Shaymin, and Legendary Celebi.
Glaceon is the stronger of the gen four evolutions for Eevee; it ranks as one of the better ice-type Pokemon in the game, only really behind Mamoswine and legendary Pokemon Regice and Articuno. However, it outclasses the likes of Weavile and Jynx with ease.
Although gen six has started rolling out, there’s still no sign of Sylveon, but all the other Pokemon Go Eevee evolutions are in the game. The problem is that each of them has a unique evolution method in Pokemon Go, including some specific Eevee nicknames that will affect the evolved form.
These are one-time use tricks, though, so while they’re great to tick that Pokemon off your Pokedex, you’ll need to know all of the following Pokemon Go Eevee evolution methods if you want to collect any more.
