It’s always a nightmare for developers, gamers, and freelancers whenever their Laptop won’t turn on. However, this issue can make you lose work, documents, pictures, and more classified stuff you kept on your laptop. This article explains how to fix it when your laptop doesn’t turn on.

Your problem can be fixed, but let’s look at what might cause your laptop not to turn on. There are potential causes for this, including a problem with the power adapter, laptop screen, battery, or even a faulty component on the motherboard.

How to Fix it When Your Laptop won’t Turn On

To resolve the issue on your computer that won’t turn on, make sure you try all the highlighted solutions below, from the easiest to the hardest.

Solution One: Check and Replace the Power Supply

This step is quite simple, but you might be doing it wrong. First, please confirm you didn’t plug the faulty power supply into your PC. Many laptop AC adapters look the same. If the adapter doesn’t offer your computer the correct voltage and amperage, it won’t work.

Once you’ve plugged your device into a reliable power source, check if your laptop power light is on. The power supply is probably working. But if you notice both the laptop power light and the adapter power light are on, you’re having a battery problem.

Solution Two: Check AC Adapter and Power Port for a Bent Pin

There is a pin at the end of some adapter that you plug into the PC. Examine the adapter’s connector plugs into the laptop and check if there is a bent or broken pin. If you notice any bent pin, your PC will not receive any power from the AC adapter. You’re required to replace your adapter to make your laptop charge and turn it back on again.

Solution Three: Remove any Bootable Media Drives

If you’ve ever used a USB stick or DVD to boot your laptop and forgotten that you’ve left either of those in your computer, it could cause startup problems. Once you’ve noticed this, try to remove it and restart your device.

Solution Four: Remove and Reconnect the Battery

This step is not for any computer whose battery is not removable. So, if your PC does not have a removable battery, skip to the next section.

It can also be in a power state that prevents it from booting. So first, disconnect the power cable and then remove the battery. Leave both disconnected from the laptop for at least a minute. Then, put the battery back in it, connect the power cable, and try turning on the laptop.

Solution Five: Perform a Hard Reset

This is one of the most effective solutions to your problem. For example, if your laptop turned off suddenly while using it, this could indicate an electric shock caused the safety mechanism built into modern motherboards to disconnect power.

Any residual electricity can be removed by disconnecting any power supply, removing the battery, and pressing and holding the power button for 30 seconds.

Connect the power adapter again, wait 30 seconds, and then turn on the system. If it starts, turn it off again and reinstall the battery.

Solution Six: Bad Hardware

Once you’ve followed all the above troubleshooting steps without omitting any step, your problem isn’t solved yet. The problem is likely a hardware failure. The most likely component to be at fault is the motherboard or processor. Solving this problem requires contacting a professional to make some changes for you.
