YouTube dark mode provides an easier-on-the-eyes viewing experience. It’s particularly nice when watching videos in the dark. YouTube’s dark theme is available on the YouTube website and in YouTube’s mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
Whether for work or pleasure, we spend a lot of time staring at computer screens. And unfortunately, spending too much time staring at a bright screen can hurt us, causing eye strain and headaches.
Switching to Dark Mode on YouTube makes nearly every video stand out better against the page and can help your eyes the next time you fall down a video rabbit hole.
Here’s how to turn it on in your desktop browser and the iPhone and Android mobile app. Note, however, that turning Dark Mode on in one place won’t turn it on in the other you’ll have to turn it on in both places separately.

Enable Dark Mode On the Web

You can enable Dark Mode on the Web by following these procedures;

  • If you aren’t signed in, click the menu button (it looks like three vertical dots) instead. You’ll find the same “Dark Theme” option here.
  • Activate the “Dark Theme” slider to enable the dark theme for YouTube. Unfortunately, this setting applies to your current web browser only, so you’ll have to enable the dark theme on each computer you use—it doesn’t sync with your Google account.
  • Click the profile or menu button again, select “Dark Theme,” and turn off the slider to undo this change.

  • On YouTube’s desktop website, click your profile icon at the top right corner of the page. Then, click the “Dark Theme” option in the menu.
For a complete dark mode on your desktop, enable dark mode in your Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge browser. You can also enable a dark theme in Gmail, too. You can also activate Windows 10’s built-in dark mode.

How To Enable Dark Mode on iPad and iOS

You can enable Dark Mode on your iPad deviceby following these procedures;
  • The YouTube app for iPhone and iPad has its dark mode option, too. Launch the app and tap your profile icon at the top right corner of the screen to enable it.
  • Tap “Settings” in the menu that appears.
  • Activate the “Dark Theme” slider on the Settings screen.
  • To use YouTube’s normal light theme again, return here and deactivate the “Dark Theme” slider.
You can also enable Dark Mode, especially if you are an iOS user, by following the procedures below:
  • Launch the YouTube app and tap your account icon in the top-right corner.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap to toggle on the Dark theme.

How To Enable Dark Mode On Android Devices

You can enable Dark Mode on Android devicesby following these procedures;
If you have the dark mode option, you’ll find it by tapping your profile icon at the top right corner of the YouTube app and then tapping “Settings.”

  • Tap “General” on the Settings screen.
  • If you see a dark mode option on the General screen, enable it. If you don’t, you’ll need to wait for Google to enable this feature on your device with an update to YouTube.

Although it’s not available for all devices, Google is rolling out a dark mode to its YouTube mobile apps. Last year, it added the previously hidden ability to change YouTube’s background from white to black to YouTube on desktops and laptops. The dark mode is available for iOS and is now rolling out to Android devices, XDA Developers reports.
YouTube remembers your light or dark preference for future visits.

How to turn on Dark Mode on YouTube on your Desktop

  • Go to YouTube and click on your user icon in the top-right corner (you don’t have to be signed in to your account. You can click the three dots in that corner if you’re logged out).
  • Click on the word “Dark theme: off.”
  • Toggle on the switch labeled “Dark Theme,” and the screen will switch to a black background.
And those are the ways you can enable dark mode on your different devices. Kindly share your experiences with us in the comment section if you found this helpful.
