How To Fix iPhone Cellular Data Not Working Issue

In this article, I’ll show you what to do when iPhone Cellular Data is not working so you can fix the problem for good!

Cellular Data is not working on your iPhone and you aren’t sure why. Cellular Data allows you to surf the web, send iMessages, and much more even when your iPhone isn’t connected to Wi-Fi. In this article, I’ll show you what to do when iPhone Cellular Data is not working so you can fix the problem for good!

Disable and Enable Cellular Data

Try the easiest fix first — disable and enable the cellular data. Go to Settings > Cellular >Cellular Data. Tap the switch to turn it off and again tap to turn it on.

Turn On/Off Airplane Mode

Under Settings turn on Airplane Mode. When Airplane Mode is on, the cellular data turns off. Later again turn off the Airplane mode to switch on cellular data.

Restart iPhone

Restarting mobile device often resolves many problems including iPhone cellular data not working after iOS update.
Hold the Volume down button and the Power button simultaneously to restart your iPhone. Now check if the iPhone cellular data has started working or not.

Reinsert SIM Card

Your iPhone SIM connects to your wireless carrier’s network. Sometimes ejecting and reinserting the SIM card helps to connect to cellular data properly.
It is also possible that your SIM card may be damaged. In such a case contact your service provider to replace the SIM.

Check For A Carrier Settings Update

Our next step when iPhone Cellular Data is not working is to check for a carrier settings update. Apple and your wireless carrier release updates in order to help your iPhone connect to your wireless carrier’s network more efficiently.

Usually when a carrier settings update is available, you’ll receive a pop-up on your iPhone that says “Carrier Settings Update”. Whenever this pop-up appears on your iPhone, always tap Update.

You can also manually check for a carrier settings update by going to Settings -> General -> About. If a carrier settings update is available, a pop-up will appear on your display within 15 seconds. If no pop-up appears, there probably isn’t a carrier settings update available, so let’s move onto the next step.

Reset Network Settings

If Cellular Data still isn’t working on your iPhone after you’ve reinserted your SIM card, it’s time to troubleshoot for a more significant software issue. When you reset network settings, all of your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, and VPN settings are restored to factory defaults. After resetting the network settings, it’ll be like you’re connecting your iPhone to your carrier’s cellular network for the very first time.

To reset network settings, go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. Then, tap Reset Network Settings when the confirmation pop-up appears.

After tapping reset network settings, your iPhone will restart. When your iPhone turns back on, the network settings have been reset!

Factory Reset

If none of the above methods work, opt for factory reset to fix mobile cellular data issue. Since factory reset leads to complete deletion of your iPhone data including contacts, photos, videos, messages, calendar, chat history, WhatsApp, Kik messages etc., so do not forget to backup iPhone in iTunes or iCloud before doing the hard reset.

DFU Restore Your iPhone

A DFU restore will erase, then reload all of the code on your iPhone and reset everything to factory defaults. Before performing a DFU restore, we recommend saving a backup of the data on your iPhone so you don’t lose any important information.
