How to Fix a PS4 That Keeps Turning Off by Itself – After using your PlayStation 4, you notice the device keeps turning off all by itself. This is a commonly known error on old PS4 or PS4 pro devices.

A PS4 turning off all by itself can be trivial or catastrophic. The PlayStation may have corrupted firmware or weak soldering of internal components, or it may have overheated. A bad hard drive, dust, or dirt on the switch can also cause the problem.

How to Fix a PS4 That Keeps Turning Off by Itself

The cause of this problem varies, and so do the fixes. We’ve compiled different working ways to fix the issue below. All you have to do is follow that explained method one after the other to learn which one works for your console:

Method 1: Reset the Console

Whenever you encounter such a problem, the first thing to try is resting the console. A simple reset can fix any error that can cause the problem. Follow the below steps to rest your console:

  • First, locate and unplug the power cable at the back of the console.
  • Then, wait for about 5 minutes.
  • Now, push the power button 2-3 times, and reconnect the power cable.
  • Next, press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep.
  • Now, connect the PS4 controller to the console with the USB cable.
  • Then, navigate downward using the D-Pad and choose “Initialize PS4” using the X button.

Note: Ensure you backup your games and other valuable stuff before resetting because this will erase everything on the console.

Method 2: Check for a software update.

The problem may be due to outdated software, so we recommend you follow the below steps to update your console software:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Locate and click on System Software Update.
  • Click Update Now.

Method 3: Start the PS4 in Safe Mode.

Starting the PlayStation 4 in safe mode can also help fix the problem. Here’s how:

  • Press and hold the power button until you hear the second beep.
  • Then, plug in the controller and push the PS button.

Method 4: Place your PS4 in a ventilated Area

The problem might be due to overheating, kindly remove the PlayStation from the wall outlet and position it in a well-ventilated area to calm it down for a while. Now, plug it back and see if the problem persists.

Method 5: Check the hard drive.

An improperly seated hard drive can cause performance problems, and a faulty one can stop your console from working. The easiest fix is to ensure that the drive is seated firmly, but you may also have to replace the PS4 hard drive.
