Change Keyboard Color on iPhone

You probably send messages using your iPhone every day, and you might be looking into ways on how to make the act of messaging more exciting or maybe pleasing to look at.

With the release of iOS 8, Apple now allows third-party keyboards in the App Store.

In this article, we’ll teach you how to change your iPhone keyboard color to something you like. Let’s jump right in.

Method 1: Switch to Dark Mode.

Apple, officially, only lets you change your keyboard color to either a dark-grey or white color when alternating between dark and light modes respectively on your iPhone or iPad.

Hence, if you want to change the keyboard colour, then you may choose to enable the dark mode in your iPhone. Take note that dark mode is a feature that is introduced with iOS 13. Meaning you will have to update your iOS version to iOS 13 to have the ability to enable dark mode. Additionally, also note that iOS 13 is not available on all iPhones, especially models before iPhone 6/6 Plus.

Here’s how you can enable dark mode on your iPhone:

Open your iPhone’s Settings app from your home screen and then scroll down and tap on Display & Brightness.

Once you click on Display & Brightness, you’ll see appearance choices for Light and Dark. Tap the Dark option to turn your iPhone keyboard to dark grey with white letters

Method 2: ColorY0urBoard

If you’re searching for a way to easily customize the color of the stock keyboard within iOS, then ColorY0urBoard is a viable option. It’s a standalone app release with an interface dedicated solely to changing the keyboard color. The app includes a color wheel, much like you’d find in image-editing applications, and it also features brightness and alpha sliders to perfect your customized look.

ColorY0urBoard isn’t perfect, but it does a pretty good job of customizing the look of your keyboard. Have a glance at our video walkthrough inside for more details.

After installing ColorY0urBoard, you’ll find a new app icon on your Home screen. This application is where you need to go to configure your custom keyboard, as the app features no settings or options in the stock Setting app.

At the top of the ColorY0urBoard interface, you’ll find a button dedicated to turning off the custom keyboard, and a button for saving your customizations. Only one keyboard can be saved and customize at a time, and the effect is applied to the whole of iOS.

Method 3: Use Google’s Gboard App to Change Keyboard Color on iPhone or iPad.

There are tons of excellent third-party apps that allow you to choose among fun themes for your keyboard and background without having to jailbreak the device. One particular, feature-rich app is Gboard which is developed by Google.

Gboard is packed with features such as glide typing, voice typing, GIFs, emoji search, morse code inputs and a Google Search built-in. You can also customize the color of your keyboard to any color available.

Here’s how you can install Gboard keyboard onto your iPhone or iPad and begin customising it:

  • The first thing you need to do is open the App Store, search for the Gboard app and Download it.
  • Now after you’ve downloaded the keyboard app that you’d like to use, tap on the Settings app and select General.
  • Next, choose the Keyboards option.
  • You should see the Gboard keyboard app which you’ve just installed. Tap on Gboard keyboard.

To avoid getting bugged by a notification every time you need to use your keyboard, you can set it as default. Tap Edit and move your chosen keyboard on top of the list and confirm by clicking Done.

Lastly, now that you have installed the app, you can begin customizing your keyboard by opening the Gboard app and then tapping Keyboard Settings. You can enable features like Glide typing, Auto-correction, Character preview and many more. Additionally, to change the keyboard color, tap on Themes and then choose your keyboard color of preference for your iPhone or iPad.
