AirPods Case Not Charging? Here Are 8 Quick Solutions

Is your AirPods case not charging? This article teaches you how to fix the issue

If your AirPods or AirPods Pro won’t charge, not holding charge, not charging all the way to 100% or your AirPod case won’t show light when charging. This article explains how to fix all AirPods Case Not Charging issues.

For quite some times now, problem threads began to surface on the internet suggesting that there was some sort of bug in Apple’s newfangled AirPods case that could cause premature battery drainage. While the number of people affected isn’t known, it goes without saying the issue was affecting a decent number of users and kicked up quite a bit of controversy.

It’s unknown if the problem is related to a software glitch simply displaying the incorrect battery percentage or if the battery inside the case is actually draining more quickly than it should be, but either way, seeing 30-50% drainage after a full charge and just a few hours of idle time is really getting under users’ skin.

Even though the AirPods case not charging issue has been around for a while now, the troubleshooting tips in this guide still works perfectly in 2021.

Why is my AirPods Case not Charging?

The reason your AirPods case isn’t charging is mainly because of a software issue. There could be a bug that’s causing a failure in the operating system which is preventing the case from being charged.

Fix 1: Check Your Connections

If you have AirPods or AirPods Pro, make sure that the Lightning to USB cable is firmly plugged into the charging case and USB power adapter. Then make sure that the power adapter is correctly plugged into a power outlet.

If you’re using a Qi-compatible charger with your AirPods or AirPods Pro, make sure that the cable is firmly plugged into the charger and that the other end is correctly plugged into a power outlet.

Fix 2: Charge Your AirPods

It sounds counterintuitive, but it’s possible you haven’t put your AirPods in their case to charge them in a while, even if you thought you did. Just to be sure, drop the AirPods into the case and wait to see if the charging light comes on. If it does, there might not be anything wrong with your AirPods.

If you have AirPods or AirPods Pro, place your AirPods in the charging case and close the lid. Charge your AirPods and case for at least 15 minutes using the cable that came with your AirPods.

If you have the Wireless Charging Case for your AirPods or AirPods Pro and you’re using a Qi-compatible charger, place the case with the status light facing up. The status light should turn on for several seconds, then turn off while continuing to charge. If the light doesn’t turn on, reposition the case.

Fix 3: Charge the AirPods Charging Case

It may be a mouthful, but the Charging Case needs to be charged in order to charge your AirPods.

  1. Plug a Lightning cable into the Lightning connector on your Charging Case.
  2. Plug the other end of the Lightning cable into a USB port or wall charger.
  3. It may take a few hours to fully charge your Charging Case.

Fix 4: Reset Your AirPods Case

This is a very good troubleshooting step to take when trying to fix your AirPod case because there aren’t that many troubleshooting steps you can complete with it.

Resetting your AirPods case is going to clear the operating system which could fix the charging process.

The next thing that you can do in this situation is to clean your AirPods case charging port.

Charging ports are notorious for getting lint and dirt stuck in them, especially if you always keep the case in your Jeans – jeans always have lint at the bottom of the pockets.

Before cleaning the case, make sure you don’t use anything wet or metal because this can cause a short circuit, and this can break your AirPods case for good.

Fake cables don’t have good connectivity capabilities compared to MFI certified cables.

Once you’ve switch lightning cables, you should check if you’re able to charge your lightning case with it.

Fix 7: AirPods Case Not Charging? Don’t use an Extension

If you’re using an extension to try and charge your Airpod case, try switching to a wall socket.

If there’s an issue with the extension, it can stop your case from charging properly.

Once you’ve plugged it into a wall socket, the case should start charging.

Fix 8: Update your AirPods firmware

If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your AirPods firmware, you may have missed an update, and that could be the culprit. Try updating the firmware, and then go through the steps above to see if your AirPods will charge.

If you run through those steps and your AirPods are still not charging, it’s possible there is a problem with the AirPods case.

AirPods Case Not Charging? Take it to the Apple store

These problems are more common than people think, so most probably they’ll know how to fix it, or if not, you might get a new replacement as long as you’re under warranty.
