    How To Fix It When Android Auto Is Not Working

    Possible Causes Of Android Auto Failing To Connect

    These are some of the possible causes of your Android Auto not connecting:

    • A corrupt app.
    • Your car or smartphone might not be compatible.
    • You may have changed some settings that are affecting the connection.
    • Android Auto might be trying to connect to the wrong platform.
    • A poor connection, could be wired or wireless.

    1. Restart Your Phone

    As in most cases of troubleshooting, first thing to do is to restart your phone.

    This is in hope that it’s just a slight glitch in the functioning system. Therefore, a quick restart would clear the apps memory and get it running back.

    Simply press your power button down for more than 10 seconds and it restarts automatically. Or you could bring up the Power menu and select “Restart”.

    2. Check Your Connections

    When using either cable or wireless connection, double-check that everything is rightly connected and working together. Your cable should be whole without breaks and cuts. It could be broken on the inside sometimes, so try another cable if it ceases to work.

    Your Android Auto can be used with a variant of cars, you only need one Android Auto app for multiple cars. It is possible you mistakenly added your preferred car to the Rejected Cars list or probably turned off the option for adding new cars.

    In this scenario, your phone only charges and does not connect with the Android Auto.
    Cross-check the settings to make sure the above are correctly turned off or on.

    If you’re not sure about the settings, you can go to the three-dot menu in the top right and tap Forget all cars to remove all paired vehicles, and then try setting up Android Auto in your car again.

    7. Check Your USB Cable

    A USB cord is needed to connect your phone to your car. This cord could be broken or damaged without you knowing it. You have to replace the cord to make sure that the fault is not from the USB cable.

    Use another USB cable that is of high-quality; the cable for your phone’s charger directly from the manufacturer is a good choice. Cables are also not to be more than 6 feet.
    Note that if the cable is a charge-only cable, it won’t support data transfer, hence, Android Auto won’t work on it.

    The way to differentiate a charge-only cable from one that supports data transfer is to check the end of the charger mouth that connects with your phone and see if it has a trident sign on it. A trident resembling a cord.

    8. Clear The Android Phone Cache And Then Clear The App Cache

    Temporary files can collect and can interfere with your Android Auto app. The best way to ensure this isn’t a problem is to clear the app’s cache. To do that:

    • Go to Settings
    • Click on Apps
    • Select Android Auto
    • Go to Storage
    • Click on Clear Cache.

    9. Uninstall And Re-install The Android Auto App

    When apps are used consistently, they tend to develop glitches. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Android Auto to rectify this issue.

    10. Update Your Phone And Android Auto App

    It is possible that the Android Auto app worked on your phone before but due to some reasons, it stopped working. It could simply mean you need to update your version of the app.

    To update, follow these steps:

    • Go to Settings
    • Click on System
    • Select Advanced
    • Navigate to System Update to check for Android updates, and install any that are available.

    Afterward, open the Play Store. Slide out the left menu and select My apps & games to show all of your installed apps that have updates available. If you see Android Auto in the list, tap Update to install it.

    While you’re here, you should update other core system apps like Google and Google Play services too. Doing so can fix issues such as Android Auto’s voice commands not working.

    Try opening the Android Auto app after any updates are installed, as there may be a user agreement update or similar that you need to accept before continuing to use it.
