Samsung had recently released the Galaxy Watch, a new smartwatch that promises to keep you connected wherever you go. It’s got a new design, long battery life, and a few new features, but is it different from the Gear S3, a Samsung smartwatch released in 2016?. We’re aware that the Gear Sport was a more recent launch from Samsung, but the smartwatch isn’t as much of a direct rival to the Galaxy Watch, so we’re focussing on the Gear S3.

Design

Compared to Gear S3, the Samsung Galaxy Watch is more of an evolution in design.
The significant change this time is that the Galaxy Watch comes in two sizes, so if the 46mm option is too big, then those with more dainty wrists can opt for the 42mm. It doesn’t sound like much, but it does make a difference.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch has a big focus on fitness and can automatically track your cycling, squatting, sleeping, or swimming.

Specs across the watches don’t differ much, although the Galaxy Watch has a newer Exynos 9110 processor. You probably won’t notice a difference in performance, though.
Bixby features on the watch and will be able to send messages, set reminders, and begin alarms, all using your voice.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy Watch is a clear improvement over the Gear S3, but Samsung itself provides no killer reason to buy their smartwatch. However, It’s very much trying to keep up with the Apple Watch but are still several versions behind in our eyes.

Price And Availability

Samsung Galaxy Watch is cheaper than the Gear S3, starting at a reasonable £279/$329 for the 42mm model. However, if you want the larger 46mm model, it will cost you £299/$349.
