Smart Home Features

Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant can work with both Blink and Ring devices. You can also set up motion events to trigger other smart home devices. For example, if you have an Amazon Echo, you can communicate to your Ring cameras and have a two-way conversation. While you can use Amazon Echo Show smart displays such as the recently-launched Amazon Echo Show 5 to view the live feed from any Ring camera or video doorbell. The Ring app also works with various smart lock systems.

Using The App

The Blink Home Monitor app is free for Androidor iOS. It allows you to customize your camera settings, specify the motion sensor’s sensitivity, select the length of video clips it records and set up a schedule. The app records video in five-second bursts by default, but you can increase that up to 60 seconds.
The Ring app as well is free for Android and iOS. For example, opting for a doorbell will alert you when motion is detected or when the doorbell rings. In addition, you can view a live feed of the camera and, if you’re using a doorbell, Stick Up, or Spotlight Cam, even have a two-way conversation with whoever is there. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensors to reduce the risk of inaccurate positives.

Which Is Right For You?

Both are a great choice. You could install either the Blink or Ring systems yourself unless you opt for the wired-in Ring devices. Blink is good when you’re looking to keep costs down and want a basic system with no hidden fees or subscriptions. The Ring devices are more expensive, and you’ll need a monthly subscription to record and review videos. Ring offers a much more versatile set of devices and power options, with extra features such as light and siren functionality.
