You’ve likely heard of Lenovo, and perhaps Lenovo has built business-class laptops. Lately, the company has made a name for itself by creating reliable laptops at a low price for users on a budget. Here’s Lenovo IdeaPad S145 laptop Review.
Lenovo has lots of hardwareand many famous brands, including IdeaPad, with the S145 being a budget model that starts from a very low price point.
What you get here is a performant 15-inch laptop with enough power to get you through anything everyday life can throw at it, with a very comfortable keyboard to boot. So if you’re working from home or just looking to do some light office or school work, the IdeaPad S145 will be more than sufficient.
There are pricier versions of the S145 that beef up the processor and some other components – and one of these even has a tempting discount applied right now, as we recently highlighted on our best cheap laptop deals page.
Although bear in mind that even with these higher-end versions of the IdeaPad S145, you’re still getting some of the same hardware in the most basic model, so this doesn’t quite marry up – we’ll go into that in more detail in the next section.
Note:If you want a solid budget notebook that gets the job done for light computingusage, the S145 is worth looking at, particularly if it gets discounts at the lower end.
Pros:Very affordably priced. A large screen and plentiful storage are definite positives in this price bracket. Also, relatively robustly built for a budget machine.
Cons:So-so low-resolution screen.1TB hard drive might be extensive, but it’s not fast. Battery life isn’t great.

Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Everything You Need To Know

As we’ve already outlined, Lenovo’s IdeaPad S145 is primarily aimed at the budget end of the market, and the entry-level models are priced at a temptingly cheap level.
The S145 is a fairly portable laptop, which isn’t particularly weighty. However, while it’s fashioned from plastic (unsurprisingly, at this price point), it’s relatively robust and solidly put together for a budget notebook.
As we’ve already outlined, this laptop so, called Lenovo’s IdeaPad S145, is an entry model priced at a temptingly cheap level and primarily aimed at the budget end of the market.
Note:The foundations of this machine are undoubtedly solid, but what are the other pros and cons to be aware of here?

1. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Display

The Lenovo IdeaPad S14 display falls in line with the rest of the notebook. It’s great to get a large 15.6-inch display at this price point, with plenty of screen real-estate for, say, watching movies or maybe even a spot of light gaming. However, it isn’t very bright if that’s what you happen to be looking for. It is an efficient display for day-to-day use, but we at least expected a 1080p resolution.

2. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Design

Lenovo-IdeaPad-S145-Design.jpg
Lenovo-IdeaPad-S145-Design.jpg
The Lenovo IdeaPad S145 looks like the more expensive ThinkPad laptop. Its design isn’t something you’d call an attractive, all-plastic build that feels sturdy and should be more than durable enough for the average user. But, on the other hand, the display doesn’t show any signs of flexing, even under stress, expected of Lenovo laptops.

3. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Roomy Storage

The base models – all the cheap Celeron and Pentium variants – all currently run with a 1TB hard drive, so the good newsthere is you’ve got lots of storage for a laptop. The bad news? It’s a 5400rpm hard disk, which isn’t the end of the world, but it doesn’t offer the snappiest loading times for your applications. The other SSD models are naturally way, way quicker in this respect.

4. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Performance

Even with the flaws on the Lenovo IdeaPad S145, performance isn’t one of them. It is powered by a 2.6GHz dual-core AMD A6-9225 (up to 3.0 GHz), 8GB RAM, and 1TB hard drive storage, alongside an AMD R4 graphics card. This is enough to get you through an entire workday with tons of tabs open in chrome, Slack, and iTunes without lagging. We get that the S145 is a no-nonsense home-office machine, and it at least pills that off.

5. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Keyboard

It should not surprise that the keyboard here is stellar, though. After all, Lenovo always offers the perfect laptop keyboards, and the keyboard on the IdeaPad S145 is a dream. We here at DigitalMag do a lot of typing, so we appreciate a keyboard that’s as tactile and downright comfortable as this one. This might be one of the best budget laptops for writers – as long as you can look past the few faults.

6. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 Battery Life

There’s a relatively small power pack in this laptop, so don’t expect too much in battery longevity – particularly if you buy one of the pricier models equipped with more powerful hardware components (which exact more of a toll on the battery).
Lenovo’s laptops are often great with battery life, and the IdeaPad S145’s 6 hours 13 minutes is just fine. Not the best, though. Don’t get us wrong, a battery life of six hours isn’t anything to write home about, but you should be able to finish most projects without reaching for the charger. The Lenovo Flex 14 offers just over 8 hours on a single charge, while the Acer Spin 3 (SP314-53N-77AJ) offers just over 11 hours on a single charge.

Bottom Line

The Lenovo IdeaPad S145 is a good option at the budget end of the market, and in the main, it cuts the right corners, maintaining a decent enough build quality for a cheap machine. The display isn’t the best, but there have to be compromised when making a budget-friendly notebook. The higher-end options currently sold by Lenovo may not make all that much sense for the reasons we’ve gone into above, but it’s still useful to have options, of course. And who knows – maybe a well-placed hefty Black Friday discount could make one of those usually much pricier models into a more compelling proposition.
