When the the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6S Plus were announced, both handsets were Apple’s flagship devices. A few years down the line, and they remain quality phones that offer excellent performance for the price.
To get an idea of what sets the 6S Plus apart from its predecessor, we’ve decided to pit the two against each other in a spec comparison.

Design

The Apple iPhone 6S Plus and the Apple iPhone 6 Plus are almost identical in design. Apple did opt for a different grade of aluminium in the new device, and introduced a new colour – rose pink – so there have been a couple of slight design changes.
The new 7000 grade aluminium is the same material Apple used on its Apple Watch. It is said to be stronger but lighter than what the iPhone 6 Plus is made from.
Same size and resolution display but iPhone 6S Plus adds 3D TouchThe iPhone 6 Plus was the device that took Apple into phablet territory with its 5.5-inch display. The iPhone 6S Plus sticks with the same size, but it features what Apple is calling 3D Touch.
Both the iPhone 6S Plus and the iPhone 6S feature Full HD resolutions at 1920 x 1080, which means a pixel density of 401ppi.

Power and productivity

The 6S Plus is definitely faster than the 6 Plus. Apple’s A9 chip runs 70-percent faster than the A8, with a GPU that’s a staggering 90-percent faster. The iPhone 6S Plus also features 2GB of RAM, which is double that of the original 6 Plus. Additionally, Touch ID is faster — there’s no lag when you swipe around — and games run more smoothly.
Both the iPhone 6S Plus and the iPhone 6 Plus are available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options, none of which offer expandable storage via microSD. They are also the same price.

Camera

The one area where the iPhone 6S Plus arguably blows the 6 Plus out of the water concerns its camera functionality. Instead of an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a sub-par 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, the 6S Plus touts a gorgeous 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
The iPhone 6S Plus also comes with a new feature called Live Photo. When you take a picture, the iPhone 6S Plus will automatically capture 1.5-seconds previous to the shot being taken and 1.5-seconds after. You will then be able to “play” the image when you look at it on any Apple device, allowing you to relive the moment it was taken in, like the cars going past or the ripples in water.
Packed within the camera’s massive upgrade is also the ability for users to not only shoot HD videos, but incredibly detailed 4K videos. Obviously it’s tough to put much stock in 4K actually mattering on something with a screen as “small” as an iPhone 6S Plus, but videos shot in 4K certainly looked a whole lot better than anything shot on a 6 Plus.

Availability

As always, the 6S Plus comes in three different storage sizes, each of which carries its own price tag. The 32GB 6S Plus comes in at $649, and the 128GB at $749. As of 2017, however, the iPhone 6 Plus is no longer being sold by Apple or any of the major carriers.

Conclusion

The Apple iPhone 6S Plus makes several improvements over the iPhone 6 Plus, including colour choice, display technology, camera and processor.
All the changes are mainly on the inside, but there are a few exciting additions on the iPhone 6S Plus that makes upgrading more justifiable.
