Chrome has become the world’s most used browser by offering performance and features that best its competitors. But this rise in popularity has led many to struggle with losing important sites, research, and sessions with lost or closed chrome tabs. This walkthrough explains how to easily restore tabs on Chrome.
It’s easy to accidentally close a tab in Google Chrome and lose a page you were browsing. But you can easily restore the tab you closed. Additionally, you can re-open websites you viewed a couple of days ago in several alternative ways on Chrome. Here’s how.
Chrome keeps the foremost recently closed tab only one click away. Right-click a space on the tab bar at the highest of the window and choose “Reopen closed tab.” You can also use a keyboard shortcut to accomplish this: CTRL + Shift + T on a PCor Command + Shift + T on a Mac.

Case 1: Closed Tab By Accident

If you clicked the incorrect pixel and closed a tab you didn’t mean to, it is easy to reopen it. You can right-click an empty area within the tab bar section and choose to reopen closed tabs. You can also use a keyboard shortcut — press Ctrl+Shift+T (or Command+Shift+T on a Mac) and therefore the last tab you closed will reopen during a new tab page.

Case 2: Chrome Or Computer Crashed

A computer crash isn’t a pleasing experience, but you do not need to worry about Chrome losing your current session. Google Chrome can handle a crash gracefully when you lose all your open tabs. Usually, once you restart Chrome, it shows a “restore tabs” button. This option will fully restore your last browsing session. Click it, and you’re right back where you left off.
If you don”t see the “restore tabs” button, it’s okay. Click the Chrome menu and hover your cursor over the history menu item. There, you’ll see an option that reads “# tabs” for instance “12 tabs”. You can click on this feature to revive your previous session.
The Ctrl+Shift+T command can also reopen crashed or closed Chrome windows. You can keep pressing this shortcut until it runs out of tabs and closed windows to revive.

Case 3: Restore Recently Closed Tabs

Similarly, you can restore recently closed tabs by again clicking the Chrome menu and hovering your cursor over the history menu item. A summary of pages you recently visited will be listed there also. If the page you would like to reopen is listed there, you can click to reopen it. If it is not there, you can try the following approach.

If you would like to travel a touch further back, you can check your browser’s history.
  • Click the three vertical dots at the highest right of the window.
  • In the menu, click “History” and then click “History” in the sub-menu.
  • Browse your complete browsing history and open any page with a click.
  • Bookmark sites that you visit regularly by clicking the ⭐️ icon on the right side of the address bar. This will add a button to the Chrome browser — clicking this button will redirect the present tab to the present website.
