How to Fix it When Your Roku Screen is Black

Here is the list of ways and methods to troubleshoot the black screen. Follow those steps and learn which one works for you:

1. Reboot your TV

Rebooting is a solution given almost every time as a fix for devices, particularly routers and phones. And while you might be skeptical, it can work just as well for your TV.

Rebooting is always the first solution to perform whenever your TV, smartphone, or router is acting up. However, a reboot can restart all the hardware and software in your device. In addition, this can get rid of any minor bugs or glitches affecting your TV. Follow the below steps to reboot your TV:

  • First, unplug your TV from the power outlet without powering it off.
  • Wait for about one or two minutes, then plug it back into the power outlet and power it ON.

This method works most of the time when trying and fix minor problems. However, if the problem persists, let’s try the next method.

2. Use Roku on Different TV

This method is quite simple, find a way to get your hand on another TV, maybe a friend’s television or anyone around you. Then, try to use your Roku device with another TV and see what happens. If you’re getting the same results, your Roku might be faulty.

3. Check the Cable Connections

A faulty HDMI cable can be a problem causing the issues. We suggest you check for any damages on the cable or try to notice if the cable is loose. If you see anything wrong with the cable, we recommend getting another cable without wasting your time.

4. Factory Reset Your TV

The next step is to factory reset your TV to default, and here’s how to do that:

  • Go to your TV’s back panel or side panel (This is where HDMI and other connector ports are located).
  • Locate the Hard reset button and press it with a sharp-pointed object if needed.
  • Hold the button for 12 seconds or more, then release it and allow your TV to power off.
  • Now, power on The TV and complete the setup.

5. Update Your TV Firmware

Roku TV comes with firmware that requires to be updated for your device to function optimally. However, your problem might have something to do with your outdated firmware. We suggest you follow the below steps to update your firmware:

  • First, go to the Settings menu on your device.
  • Next, scroll down to System Update and click on it.
  • Choose the update option to download and install the latest firmware.
