Adding extensions to Google Chrome can give your web browser all sorts of new functionality. Browser extensions come in all shapes and sizes. With the right extensions, you can generally become more organized and productive.
But how do you find, install, and manage extensions in your Chrome browser? This article explains more about finding, installing, and managing extensions in Google Chrome.

Applications of Some Google Chrome Extensions

  • AdBlock Plus: a feature that blocks advertisements on websites
  • Evernote Web Clipper: This extension saves clipped notes from webpages for later use
  • Grammarly: This Chrome extension corrects typing and spelling errors on any website you type on in your browser

How to Install Chrome Extensions

  • You have to download the official Chrome Extensions from the Chrome Web Store from a trusted source.
  • Next, search for the specific extension you would be needing. Google helps by providing recommendations on top required extensions. You can make your choice from there.
  • Click on your desired extension choice. This would redirect you to the extension’s page.
  • On the extension’s page, click “Add to Chrome” to add the extension to your browser.
  • A window will pop up and ask you for permissions needed by the extension. Read the permissions carefully and decide whether you want to give this extension access, then click “Add Extension.”
  • After installation is completed, an icon usually appears indicating that you added to your Chrome browser in the top right corner, next to the settings icon.
This area tends to get clustered as more extensions are added. To avoid this, right-click on the extension’s icon and click on the “Hide in Chrome menu” to move it into the menu and out of Chrome’s toolbar.

Using the Chrome Extension

Once added, all you need to do is log in/sign up to the extension (not in all cases, but in some cases you would have to create an account), and you are all good to go!

Uninstalling a Chrome Extension

Removing a Chrome extension is quite simple and involves just a couple of steps ideally:
  • Open the Chrome browser and direct the mouse’s cursor to the icon you wish to uninstall
  • Right-click on the icon
  • A menu appears, select “Remove from Chrome”
  • By now, the icon should disappear from your screen at this rate.
In case the icon doesn’t appear on the screen, follows these steps to remove:
  • On the Chrome browser, there are three dots arranged vertically. Click on these dots.
  • Next, select “More tools”
  • Click on “Extensions”
  • Select the extension you want to remove.
  • Confirm by clicking ‘Remove’.

Managing Your Chrome Extensions

To manage your chrome extensions, follow these steps:
  • Click on the three dots indicating menu at the top right of your Chrome screen.
  • Select “More Tools” then click on “Extensions.” You can also type chrome://extensions/ into Chrome’s Omnibox and press Enter.
  • Browse through your extensions and click on the “details” icon to pull up the settings tab.
Otherwise, if you know which extension you want to change—and it’s already docked on your browser— you can right-click the extension’s icon on Chrome’s shelf, then click “Manage Extensions” to circumvent going to the main extensions landing page.

You can also:

  • Turn off the extension
  • Allow it on only the incognito mode
  • Access an extension’s options
  • Open the extension’s website and grant access to the site
That is all there is to installing and managing Chrome Extensions.
