Many iPhone 8and 8 plus users have been looking for what to do after using a Lightning cable to charge their device, and nothing happened. In this guide, we explain how to fix the problem.
Note:There are four components in the iPhonecharging process, your iPhone’s software, your Lightning cable (charging cable), your charger, and your iPhone’s Lightning port (charging port). Your iPhone 8 or 8 Plus won’t charge if any components stop working.
Sometimes the solution is as simple as hard resetting your iPhone. That’s the first thing an Apple techwould do in the Apple Store, and it’s easy to do at home. Here’s how:
Quickly press the volume up button on the side of your iPhone.
Next, quickly press the volume down button on the side of your iPhone.
Finally, press and hold the power button.
Release the power button when the Apple logo appears on display. Your iPhone 8 will turn back on shortly after.
Check for any visible damage on your lightning cable. Take a close look at both ends of the USB cable you use to charge your iPhone. Apple’s lightning cables are prone to fraying, especially at the end that connects to your iPhone. See visible signs of wear? It might be time for a new cable.
If there is no visible damage to the outside of the cable, instead of using the wall adapter that came with your iPhone, try plugging your iPhone into a USB port on your computer to charge. Already charge your iPhone using your computer? Try using the wall adapter. If it works in one place and not the other, your cable isn’t the issue.
The best way to figure out whether the problem is your cable is to try charging your iPhone using a friend’s cable. If this charger suddenly springs your iPhone back to life after you plug it in, this is why the iPhone won’t charge. We recommend you change your USB cable or if you’re under warranty, contact Apple tech support for a replacement.
Note:One of the reasons your iPhone is not charging is due to 3rd-party cable that people buy in gas stations.
Software problems may be fixed entirely, and erase the code, which may be causing your issue by DFU restoring your device. In addition, the code is rewritten as if your iPhone is brand new so that the software problem may get solved.
Note:Back up your iPhone before you perform a DFU restore. Any time you do a restore, it erases everything from your iPhone. However, you can restore all your backed-up data onto your iPhone after the restore is completed.
Open iTunes if you have a PC or Mac running Mojave 10.14 or earlier). Open Finder if you have a Mac running Catalina 10.15 or newer. It doesn’t matter if your iPhone is on or off.
Press and hold the power and volume down button on your device
After 8 seconds, release the Power Button, but continue to hold the volume down button
Your iPhone’s display will be completely black if you’ve successfully entered DFU mode.
You’ve tried the highlighted solution, and your iPhone is still not charging. We strongly recommend you visit the nearest Apple Store to repair your iPhone. If there has been liquid or physical damage to the phone, the only option they can offer is to replace your entire iPhone. If you don’t have AppleCare+, this can get expensive, fast.
