How to Find Your Roku IP Address– No matter which Roku media streamer you own, a Roku is a full-fledged network device with its IP address on your home network. And while it’s usually just an appliance you plugin and can ignore, there may be times when you need to know its IP address to find it on your network or for other network troubleshooting.
This article explains how to find a Roku IP address using the Roku remote, your router, or the Remoku add-on for Google Chrome.
How to Find Roku IP Address With Your Remote
It’s easiest to find your Roku’s IP address within the device itself. Your Roku makes its IP address readily available within its menus. But, first, you need to know where to look.
- From the Roku main menu, move down to the settings.
- Search for the networking option.
- Under that submenu, find About. You’ll find your Roku’s IP address and other useful network information about your device.
How to Find a Roku IP Address with the Mobile App
If you don’t have easy access to the remote control, but you’ve installed and set up the Roku app on your phone, you’re just a few taps away from the IP address. You can use the app as a remote and find the IP address using the steps above, or do this:
- Start the Roku app.
- On either the Roku Channel or Channels tab, tap the gear icon at the top right of the screen.
- Tap “System Info.”
The System Info page has the IP address and other networking details.
How to Find a Roku IP Address in a Web Browser
Another easy way to get your Roku’s IP is with a Roku remote add-on for Google Chrome called Remoku.
Remoku is a web app that lets you use a virtual remote on your computer to control your Roku over your network. Because of that, it needs a feature to find and connect to Roku devices on your network. So that’s exactly what you’re going to be relying on here.
- Open Google Chrome, then open the Chrome Web Store. If you don’t know where it is, there’s probably a link in your bookmarks bar. If you don’t have one, do a Google search for “Chrome apps,” The Chrome Web Store should come right up as the first result.
- Once in the Chrome app store, search for “Remoku.” The first and only result is the one you’re looking for.
- Select Add to Chrome to add it to Chrome.
- Open Remoku via the icon in the upper right of your Chrome window. The virtual remote will pop open.
- Across the top, you’ll see your menu for the app—select Settings. The top box of the settings menu contains all the tools for connecting to your Roku.
- Assuming that you have a standard home network (your network’s IP begins with “192.168.1…”), click “Scan” and wait a minute or two while the app scans each of the IP addresses on your network to find your Roku. If your network has a different IP address format, correct it before clicking “Scan.”
Remoku isn’t a perfect solution, though, as it doesn’t always work perfectly with every model Roku, and users report it sometimes fails to work intermittently. If you have no other option, though, it’s worth trying.
