Gamingmonitor options keep expanding with new vendors, models, and features. Choosing the best gaming monitor isn’t as straightforward as you might think. It isn’t just about getting the highest resolution you can afford. A display that’s ideal for gaming, after all, needs a few more things than having a 1440p or 4K resolution. This tutorial will highlight the best gaming monitors money can buy in 2021.
The best gaming monitor is a window to the high-fidelity future of PCgaming. Yes, it’s an exciting time to be a PC gamer, but it also means that picking the best gaming monitor for your rig is more complicated than ever. The selection can be overwhelming, from screen-smoothing technologies (Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync). More importantly, for pixel addicts, 4K screens are as hard on the bank account as they are on graphics cards.

Choosing The Best Gaming Monitor For You

Different panel types are vying for your eyeballs when seeking the best gaming monitor. IPS, TN, VA, and even OLED have pros and cons. Features like a faster refresh rate, wide aspect ratio, and curvature also matter when picking the best gaming monitor. They help deliver a smoother and more immersive gaming experience that will do justice to that Nvidia RTX 3000 series GPU under the hood of your gaming PC.
Quick Shopping Tips:Before diving into how to pick the best gaming monitor, consider the following:
  • Refresh Rates: Consider the bigger refresh rate. This tells you the number of times your monitor updates with new information per second — stated in hertz (Hz) — and, therefore, how many frames per second (fps) the monitor can display. The bigger it is, the smoother the image you will be getting. Refresh rate is significant for gamers, so you’ll want to shoot for a monitor with at least 75 Hz (most gaming monitors offer at least 144 Hz), combined with the lowest response time you can find.
  • G-Sync or FreeSync?: FreeSync monitors tend to be cheaper but have comparable performance. G-Sync only works with PCs with Nvidia graphics cards, while FreeSync only works with systems using AMD ones. Technically you can run G-Sync on a FreeSync-only monitor, but performance isn’t guaranteed.
  • Image Quality: Typically, TN monitors are the fastest but cheapest due to weaker viewing angles. IPS displays have slightly slower response times but better color than VA monitors. The best gaming monitors for contrast are VA, but VA also has slower response times.

The additional features are genuinely helpful, and you get a lot of monitors for your cash.
The G27Q proves that you don’t need to spend a fortune for a decent IPS 1440p display. At $330, Gigabyte’s 27-inches packs in many features but, more importantly, provides rich color and smooth gameplay. Of course, the 144 Hz refresh rate doesn’t hurt, either.

  • Backlight strobe creates artifacts
After our recommended calibration, this monitor posted the widest color gamut we’ve ever recorded: 112.19% of DCI-P3. Additionally, it features an edge-lit backlight. The GNV34DBE also makes a good HDR display, offering a noticeable improvement over your typical SDR monitor. However, at its low price, the build quality of the stand is lacking.

The display also features G-Sync technology with 175 Hz variable refresh rates. That’s a massive boost over lower refresh rate curved gaming monitors. It’s a big, bold, and beautiful-looking display, and the zero-frame bezel-less approach is another welcome addition. Gigabyte’s Aorus CV27Q is one of the best gaming monitors for high-speed gaming performance. However, its impressive specs shined in our input lag and response time tests when pitted against 144 Hz rivals.
Its features include Aorus’ active noise cancellation (ANC) feature, which uses two mics on the front bezel to reduce background noise others may hear coming from your gaming headset, a 1500R curve, and RGB lighting on the back. But if money is (somehow) no object, the $2,300 Acer Predator X35 is a dream come true, and the Asus ROG Strix XG279Q on this page is a hair faster.

It’ll make any gamer you know jealous with premium touches, like an RGB stand, flat green cables for cable management, and drool-worthy build quality. Additionally, despite its 144Hz refresh rate, the Raptor 27 could stay competitive with 165Hz monitors in our benchmarking. There wasn’t significant motion blur, but selective, pro-level players will have to choose between dealing with it or activating the backlight strobe, which limits you to 120Hz, reduces brightness by 40%, and grays out FreeSync and G-Sync Compatibility.

Performance is so equal among the three that you could get either of them and not be able to tell the difference when it comes to speed and image quality. As a result, all three earned our Editor’s Choice Award compared to other high-end gaming monitors.
This monitor is a competitive gamer’s dream. Anyone looking for a competitive edge and values speed over anything else will be overjoyed with this Swift gaming monitor. If you already own a 240Hz monitor, you’re probably ok with what you have, but that’s a different story once you see this monitor in action. Reason To Buy

Reason To Avoid

CRG5 is a demon in speed, 240 Hz monitor is great for your gaming experience when it comes to speed. Its level of speed required two things: settling for 1080p resolution and a TN panel. But the Samsung 27-inch CRG5 (there’s also a 24-inch CRG5) is the best gaming monitor in this class. We encountered a few flaws during testing. The biggest one in terms of image quality was an inaccurate HDMI Black Level setting. Plus, the only form of Adaptive-Sync is G-Sync Compatibility. But besides those minor caveats, our gaming experience was a record-breaking pleasure.

For most, the CRG5 is in the sweet spot for a 240Hz monitor. Its 1080p resolution will require fewer graphics power than the 1440p PD27. When it came to our speed benchmarks, the PD27 was 1ms faster than the CRG5 in the response time test and 2ms slower in the absolute input lag test. So performance is comparable, but the PD27 is also in a different style class.

Best Gaming Monitor FAQ

Question 1:Should I buy an HDR monitor?
Answer:With a High Dynamic Range monitor, you can use the ever-growing list of games and apps that feature HDR support. It offers more vibrant colors and more excellent contrast but will drive up the price a little. Unfortunately, windows native HDR function also leaves a lot to be desired, and you may find you have to fiddle in the settings to get HDR looking like it should.
Question:Should I go for a FreeSync or G-Sync monitor?
Answer:FreeSync monitors are cheap, and they would only work in combination with an AMD GPU. The same goes for G-Sync monitors and Nvidia GPUs. Nowadays, though, it is possible to find G-Sync compatible FreeSync monitors if you intend to spend less.
Question 1:Should I go for an IPS, TN, or VA panel?
Answer:We strongly recommend an IPS for a better gaming experience. The clarity of image, viewing angle, and color reproduction is superior to the cheaper technology, but you’ll often find a faster TN for cheaper. VA techis the other alternative, less expensive than IPS and better than TN. The colors aren’t quite hot, but the contrast performance is impressive.
